Salary: Director of Consultancy - £80,000- £92,500 per annum; Director of Research and Insights - £72,500- £85,000 per annum
Location: Old Street, London. This role requires in-office presence three days a week.
Hours: Both roles are available as full time. We offer other flexible work options, such as compressed hours.

About the roles
Director of Consultancy
We are recruiting for a Director of Consultancy to lead Crest’s consultancy practice. This is a pivotal role responsible for increasing our portfolio of work, developing partnerships across sectors, ensuring high quality client relationships, enhancing quality assurance and contract management, and harnessing innovation to meet the evolving needs of our clients and the environments within which they operate.
Crest’s consultancy practice, Crest Consulting, devises and delivers strategy for organisations, evaluates and transforms services, and strengthens partnerships for our clients. We enable clients to meet policy and legislative commitments and improve outcomes by quantifying, explaining and solving complex problems.
The Director of Consultancy will work closely with our Partner for Consultancy and Insights to develop, manage and deliver our portfolio of consultancy programmes, ensuring maximum impact for our clients, supporting them to improve performance and answering complex problems. The role will be part of Crest’s senior management team, which also houses our independent think tank for public safety and criminal justice, Crest Insights, and our public inquiries and communications practice, Crest Inquiries. Reporting to the Board of Partners and the CEO, this role is crucial in the success of the business.
The role would be a perfect opportunity for an experienced leader who wants to support positive change within the criminal justice system. The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, excellent communication and relationship management skills, and bring in work and develop internally high performing teams.
The role is multifaceted: we are looking for a dynamic individual with the experience, innovation and confidence to:
develop Crest’s offer to our current and potential consultancy clients, across public, private and VCS sectors
to lead our approach to portfolio management, overseeing the quality of our consultancy projects,
build our pipeline of work through both formal procurement routes and informal effective relationship marketing and;
build a capable and high performing consultancy team with the, experience, skills and ways of working required
Director of Research and Insights
Crest Advisory has grown over the last ten years, as the business has grown, so has the nature, scale and complexity of our work. Our current Director of Research is leaving us, building on her success at Crest. We are therefore looking for a new Director of Research and Insights, to lead Crest Insights, our in-house think-tank, funding, designing, managing and delivering our research and policy programme.
Crest Insights does the hard thinking which drives policy reform, improves the operating environment for agencies and organisations which deliver policing, justice and public safety and so makes communities safer. We’re independent, and have a non-party approach, following the evidence to influence decision-makers at every level of government and across police, justice and the wider public safety sector. Alongside our think tank practice, we also operate a consultancy practice, Crest Consulting, and a public inquiries and reviews practice, Crest Inquiries.
This is a vital role, working closely with our Partner for Consultancy and Insights to set the research and policy agenda for Crest Insights, lead fundraising to ensure the think tank is sustainable, help to build Crest’s public profile and manage a small but expert team.
The role of multifaceted: we are looking for a dynamic individual with the experience, passion and confidence to:
provide strategic and intellectual direction to our in-house think tank, ensuring it is in a position to set the agenda across policing, justice and public safety policy
make Crest Insights sustainable long term by securing funding, raising profile, and building and influencing long term partnerships
manage a high performing team at Crest Insights, while helping staff across our business to learn, grow and develop their skills and careers
play a key role in the leadership of the business as a whole, working closely with CEO and Partners and our consulting and inquiries/reviews practices
