Crest welcomes three new interns

Monday 30 March 2020

Last month we welcomed three new interns to the team. Two analyst interns, James Stewart and Molly Corlett (centre, left) and communications intern Anna Bennett (right).

James and Molly support the team at Crest with a variety of tasks, from writing literature reviews to carrying out data analysis for a number of different projects, and Anna assists the team with marketing & communications, including media monitoring and digital.

James is a graduate from the University of Liverpool with a first-class honours degree in Economics. Before joining Crest, he spent three months as a community volunteer in Kenya leading a team of three on various projects. James’ time in Kenya has helped him to develop strong leadership, analytical and research skills, which are proving invaluable at Crest.

James says:

“Crest is an amazing place to work, even while we’re all forced to work at home due to COVID-19, everyone makes sure to stay connected. This perfectly represents the collaborative nature of Crest where everyone works together to succeed as a team.”

Molly brings formidable experience to the team, having volunteered as a welfare benefits adviser, as well as carrying out work for the Department for Work and Pensions. With a BA in History from University College London, an MSt in British and Medieval History from Oxford University and a PhD from King’s College in London examining eighteenth-century social relations, Molly has a strong academic record that lends itself to the qualitative and quantitative research and analysis she now carries out at Crest.

Molly says:

“After spending the past three years researching a very specialised topic in an academic environment, I’m really enjoying working on projects which span so many policy areas — and getting the chance to develop new skills, from Crest’s collaborative way of working to data visualisation. Though the working environment at Crest is fast-paced enough that you could never imagine getting bored, it’s also hugely welcoming and supportive.”

Anna graduated from the University of Bath with a degree in French and Politics before choosing to focus her professional skills on communications. After completing her studies, she joined African Child Trust, a small charity that helps vulnerable women and children across Africa. In this role, she led the charity’s communications team. Now having refined her communications skills, she provides support to Crest’s marketing & communications team.

Anna says:

“I have already loved every minute of being at Crest. I’m getting hands-on experience that I wouldn’t get anywhere else, especially the work I’m doing with Public Inquiries. While I’m new to the criminal justice system, I’m learning a lot very quickly. The team is incredibly supportive and there’s always someone who can answer any question I have.”

Molly has since been offered a full time position at Crest, now supporting the team as an Assistant Analyst.

Two weeks ago, in light of the immense challenges to public health presented by the coronavirus (COVID-19), the team relocated from our offices in Oxford Circus to home working. James, Molly and Anna have set up their own daily check-ins - and even take virtual lunches together!
